A series that originally aired in Germany earlier this year, eco-thriller “The Swarm” is surfacing here in the United States thanks to The CW this September, Deadline reports.

“The Swarm” will premiere September 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Deadline previews, “In the first episode, after years of unrestrained pollution and relentless climate change, a mysterious force of the deep starts using the creatures of the ocean as hostile hosts and declares war on humanity.”

Here’s the full official logline…

“Around the world, strange happenings, borne out of the oceans: Whales destroy boats, deep sea crabs attack beaches, mussels block container ships. An unknown ice worm destabilizes continental slopes and triggers tsunamis. A deadly pathogen spreads into the drinking water. Across the globe, lives are increasingly imperiled, the situation worsening by the day—and yet, nobody can draw a connection between the seemingly random attacks.

“Except for a group of scientists who come together through their shared sense that something bigger is at play: an intelligent life force, dwelling in the deep—capable of manipulating the ocean, and everything that resides in it. A being which has borne witness to our destruction of the seas and has decided to drive us to extinction. But hardly anyone believes their findings. And so, the group is forced to undertake a life-threatening mission, tracking the intelligent life force within the Arctic Ocean.

“It is a mission they know may claim their lives.”

From Executive Producer Frank Doelger (“Game of Thrones”), the upcoming eight-part series is based on Frank Schätzing’s bestelling novel (German title: Der Schwarm).

The novel was originally published in 2004, and Uma Thurman had acquired the film rights two years later. That film never came to be, but the novel did spawn a board game.

“I’m the Grim Reaper” – Sam Raimi Teams with ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Writers on Gory, Funny Webtoon Adaptation

I'm the Grim Reaper

The Wattpad/Webtoons and Grave Weaver-created series “I’m the Grim Reaper” is nearing its 200th episode, and it’s also getting a new TV series adaptation with talented names behind it. Deadline reports that celebrated filmmaker Sam Raimi is teaming up with 10 Cloverfield Lane scribes Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken on the new series.

The series follows “Scarlet, a young woman who wakes up in the ninth circle of hell with no idea how she got there. Satan offers to send Scarlet back to Earth if she’ll work as his reaper. But it doesn’t take long for Scarlet to realize that Satan’s offer is even worse than she feared.”

The story is said to fit perfectly into “Raimi’s wheelhouse, striking a deft balance between scares, gore and humor.”

Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi will executive produce the series with Weaver, who’ll also team on the development process. Raimi may be most known for his Spider-Man and Evil Dead movies, but the filmmaker has been busy behind the scenes producing. More recently, Raimi produced this week’s action brawler Boy Kills World and last year’s 65, with Don’t Move on the way.

The “I’m the Grim Reaper” webtoon launched in 2019, delving into the humor and horrors of reaping souls in Hell. That it’s on the cusp of airing its 200th episode means no shortage of story and mythology for Campbell and Stuecken to pull from.

Stay tuned for additional details on this new series as they arrive.
