Guts & Glory series by Greg Nicotero

Shudder is rejoining forces with “Creepshow” series creator Greg Nicotero (The Walking DeadThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon); the streaming service has officially greenlit immersive horror competition series “Guts & Glory.”

“Guts & Glory is set to debut later this year on both Shudder and AMC+ (U.S. and Canada).

The six-episode series “flips the script on the traditional competition show – thrusting players into an immersive horror experience full of unexpected challenges.

If you know horror, you know the innovation and creativity that Greg Nicotero brings to the genre. His legendary special effects work has given audiences a fresh and thrilling take on familiar genre staples from his notorious walkers of The Walking Dead to the monsters of Creepshow and more, never failing to shock and scare, said Rob Fox, EVP of production for AMC Networks. “We’re thrilled to continue our longstanding relationship with Greg in bringing his unique concept to life with moments and scenarios that shock, surprise and showcase the depth of this genre.

Said Award-winning special effects artist, director and executive producer Greg Nicotero, “I couldn’t be more excited with this opportunity to explore this new landscape. To marry a non-scripted competition show with a genre narrative lands along the lines of if Survivor and The Blair Witch Project had a baby. It’s one of the most creative and organic things I’ve ever done, creating FX that have to happen live in real time and capturing the honest reactions….all the while fighting to see who the winner will be. To add to the mayhem, I also got to reunite many of the key crew members from The Walking Dead Universe to help bring this show to life.

Executive producers include series showrunner Nicotero and Brian Witten from Monster Agency Productions, Chris Wagner from White Label, and Andrew Molina from Salaryman. Jeffrey F. January serves as co-executive producer.

It’s shaping up to be a massive year for Shudder. The streamer is celebrating its tenth year and is pulling out all the stops in celebration, including fan events and limited merch. As for Nicotero, the multihyphenate horror stalwart is also working on a series adaptation of Swan Song.

Horror journalist, RT Top Critic, and Critics Choice Association member. Has appeared on PBS series' Monstrum, served on the SXSW Midnighter shorts jury, and moderated horror panels for WonderCon, SeriesFest, and Popcorn Frights Film Fest.

The X-Files Reboot Pilot wraps

Himesh Patel (Tenet, Don’t Look Up) will star opposite Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard) in Ryan Coogler’s reboot ofThe X-Files, which has wrapped filming on the pilot.

Patel confirmed the news in a chat with The Direct, while reiterating that he and Deadwyler play new characters.

I don’t want to say anything that’s going to get me disappeared. Needless to say, myself and Danielle Deadwyler are playing completely new characters, and we just wrapped on the pilot. If we get to do more… we’ll see where we go from there,Patel said.

That last sentence is noteworthy, as Patel is reminding that Hulu has only ordered the pilot so far. A full series order has yet to be greenlit.

It’s a good reminder, considering that Hulu also ordered a pilot for theBuffy: New Sunnydalereboot that was filmed and delivered earlier this year, only for the streamer to send shockwaves when it opted not to move forward with the series.

As forThe X-Filespilot, Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler writes and directs the pilot. Jennifer Yale (The Copenhagen Test) serves as showrunner.

Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler play two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

Patel and Deadwyler previously co-starred together onStation Eleven.

Other actors who have signed on for guest roles include Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrand, and Sofia Grace Clifton.

The X-Filesoriginally ran for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002, with two additional seasons arriving in 2016 and 2018. 218 episodes were produced in total, along with two feature films: 1998’s The X-Files: Fight the Future and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
