Netflix has a hit on their hands with the new animated series Devil May Cry, and the streamer has announced this morning that Dante will return for more demon-slaying action.
“Devil May Cry” Season 2 will premiere May 12, 2026, only on Netflix.
In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom video game, from the vision of Adi Shankar, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms.
In the middle of it all is Dante (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch), an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix: “A war between worlds ignites as Dante must battle the only force that mirrors his own: his estranged twin brother Vergil. In Devil May Cry Season 2, Dante must confront his own devils and the feeling of family he lost as a child. With the reemergence of Vergil, will Dante lay to rest old demons or fall victim to them?”
The series is created by Adi Shankar (“Castlevania,” Dredd), who serves as showrunner, and produced by South Korean animation studio Studio Mir (“The Legend of Korra,” “X-Men ’97”).
Daniel Kurland wrote in his four-skull rave review for Bloody Disgusting, “Netflix’s Devil May Cry is the latest video game adaptation to hit its mark through subversive storytelling and kinetic combat that’s full of demon-slaying bliss.” You can read the full review here.
Created by Hideki Kamiya, the first Devil May Cry game was released in 2001. There are now five main games in addition to several reboots, spin-offs, special editions, and mobile games.
