Ahead of Alien Day on April 26, “Alien: Earth” creator Noah Hawley (“Fargo,” “Legion”) spoke about the series’ second season with Deadline.
“We start [shooting] this summer. We’re getting close,” said Hawley. “I did a stage walk today past the props and costumes. Things are being built. It’s always exciting to see it. We had a great experience in Thailand, but for a couple of reasons London is a better home for us long-term.”
“Alien: Earth” Season 2 is shooting at the historic Pinewood Studios — home of the original Alien as well as Aliens, Alien 3, and Prometheus. The show’s new production designer, Neil Lamont, is the son of Alien production designer Peter Lamont.
The second season “certainly expands on the promise of the first,” according to Hawley. “It’s a bigger show, more world building, and I can’t think of a better place for taking on that bigger challenge.”
As for further seasons, Hawley confirmed, “It’s my hope – I have a place that I’m going, but I don’t know how long it will take me to get there. Assuming that the price of execution and the audience stays commensurate, we could go for as long as we want. If we nurture them, these franchises can give back for a very long time.”
While he served as the sole showrunner and directed two episodes of the first season, Hawley will be bringing in a co-showrunner and won’t helm any of “Alien: Earth” Season 2 in order to focus on his “Far Cry” series. “There will be a moment where I am running two shows at the same time, so you make choices,” he noted.
Announced earlier this month, Peter Dinklage is joining as a series regular. “He’s got a major role, and people are going to feel it’s a worthy role for him,” Hawley teased. Additional casting news is expected soon.
Named one of Bloody Disgusting’s 10 Best Horror Television Series of 2025, “Alien: Earth” premiered on FX last August to strong viewership and critical response. It was renewed in November.
