‘The Boroughs’ Trailer – Retirees Face an Otherworldly Threat in Netflix Sci-Fi Series

The executive producers of “Stranger Things” invite you to a new community in “The Boroughs” trailer.

Created by showrunners Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews (“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”), the eight-episode mysterious sci-fi series drops May 21 on Netflix.

“In the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives.

But for new arrival Sam Cooper, paradise feels more like a prison. Everything changes when a terrifying nighttime encounter reveals that something monstrous is stalking the manicured cul-de-sacs.

Dismissed by the powers that be as just another confused old man, Sam finds unlikely allies in a band of neighborhood misfits: a sharp-witted former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a cynical music manager, and a brilliant doctor running out of options.

Overlooked and underestimated, these unlikely heroes must band together to unravel the dark truth at the heart of The Boroughs before their time runs out.”

Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman, Carlos Miranda, Jena Malone, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg star.

The cast also features Ed Begley Jr., Dee Wallace, Eric Edelstein, Rafael Casal, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Beth Bailey, Karan Soni, and Jane Kaczmarek.

Ben Taylor (“Sex Education”) directs the first two episodes, with Augustine Frizzell (“Euphoria”) and Kyle Patrick Alvarez (The Stanford Prison Experiment) helming the others.

The Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Things”) executive produce with Hilary Leavitt for Upside Down Pictures, alongside Addiss, Matthews, and Taylor.

“The central question of the show is: What will you do with the time you have left? And we literally say that in the pilot,” Addiss tells Netflix. “It was important to us that was the question, because it’s a question that anybody can ask. It’s a question that any audience of any age can ask. And our heroes are probably on the shorter end of the stack, so the stakes are higher. The choices they make matter more because they maybe have less time left — or they might have more time, because weird stuff is always happening in ‘The Boroughs.’”

“No one knows how much time they have left,” Matthews adds. “Everyone of every age is trying to figure out what to do with the time they have left. And sometimes that question is inspiring all the things you want to do. Sometimes that’s a weight. There’s a lot of different ways to face the rest of your life, but everyone is always facing the rest of their life. And that’s why it’s a show for everybody.”
