Jodie Comer (28 Years Later, “Killing Eve”) has been tapped to star in “The Chain” from showrunner Damon Lindelof (“Lost,” “Watchmen”), Deadline reports.
HBO gave an eight-episode, straight-to-series order to the thriller, which is based on Adrian McKinty‘s 2019 novel of the same name.
Comer will play Rachel, a suburban mother who is forced by a dangerous group of masterminds to commit a crime to save her kidnapped daughter or risk losing her forever.
Lindelof co-wrote the pilot with Carly Wray (“Mad Men,” “Westworld”), based on a story by Lindelof, Wray, and Breannah Gibson (“The Penguin”).
Michael Ellenberg & Lindsey Springer executive produce for Media Res (“The Morning Show”), the co-studio behind the series, along with Lindelof, Gibson, Shane Salerno, and Joe Iberti (“Alien: Earth“). McKinty serves as co-executive producer.
“From the moment I heard the wild and original premise of Adrian’s book, I was shocked, surprised and angry I hadn’t thought of it myself,” Lindelof previously commented. “I’ve always wanted to try to adapt a great thriller and this one has all the dark, weird, exhilarating touches that fire up my imagination.”
Comer can next be seen opposite Hugh Jackman and Bill Skarsgård in A24’s The Death of Robin Hood, out June 19.
