Murder Mystery Spinoff Series ‘Vought Rising’ Will Be Much Grittier Than ‘The Boys’

Vought Rising

The series finale of  “The Boys” culminated in a bit of a bloodbath, but the twisted world of Supes will live on in spinoff series “Vought Rising.”

The prequel series set decades before the events of its parent show recently wrapped production and is set to launch in 2027 on Prime Video.

It’s set “in 1950 and focuses on fan-favorite character Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and season two breakout Stormfront (Aya Cash). The story has been described as a twisted murder mystery that charts the origins of the sinister Vought corporation.”

Also appearing in “Vought Rising” are:

  • Mason Dye (Teen WolfStranger Things) as Bombsight
  • Elizabeth Posey (Heels) as Private Angel
  • Will Hochman (Blue Bloods) as Torpedo

As mentioned in season five of “The Boys,” these supes, along with Soldier Boy and Stormfront, are the only success stories from Dr. Frederick Vought’s V1 trials and were rendered immortal as a result. Ethan Slater‘s Thomas Godolkin from “Gen V” could also appear in this spinoff.

According to series creator Eric Kripke in an interview with THR, “Vought Rising” will still retain the signature satirical gore but with a much grittier, noir tone.

“It’s definitely got some Boys‘ DNA in that it’s irreverent and graphic,” Kripke said. “But it has this sort of lovely, almost noir-like murder mystery — not Black Noir but actual noir. There are detectives and twists, and there’s a murder that then opens up into a bigger conspiracy.”

The showrunner also teases a much darker depiction of the ’50s: “We wanted dirty and grimy. There would be heroin dens and gay bars and this underbelly of popular culture at the time.”

Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr also serve as executive producers on the series. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures, and Original Film.

“Vought Rising” joins spinoff series “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” and the recently canceled “Gen V.” Previously announced spinoff series “The Boys: Mexico” is still on the way.
