Netflix’s true crime anthology series “Monster” is back this September with “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,” and we’ve got our first look this week courtesy of Vanity Fair.
Ella Beatty stars in “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” as Lizzie Borden alongside Charlie Hunnam as her father, Rebecca Hall as her stepmother, Billie Lourd as her sister, Jessica Barden as her close friend, and Vicky Krieps as the family’s maid.
Sarah Paulson will appear as notorious serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monster” launched in 2022 with “The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and was followed by “The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and “The Ed Gein Story.”
Brennan teases in his chat with Vanity Fair, “It was a tough time to be a rudderless young woman, and in a house that didn’t seem happy. The big question the anthology always asks is are monsters made or born? With Lizzie, if she’s a monster, she wasn’t born that way.”
Rebecca Hall teases, “It’s Ryan Murphy does Cinderella.”
The story of Lizzie Borden, accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1892, has been the subject of various movies and television shows over the years. In fact, a new indie horror movie titled The Lizzie Borden Game just released this year, and Christina Ricci played Borden in Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles in 2015.
Chloë Sevigny later played Lizzie Borden in the 2018 feature film Lizzie.
