The original horror classic Friday the 13th gets a brand new prequel series with A24 and Peacock’s “Crystal Lake” this Halloween season, and the official trailer has arrived.
Before Jason, there was Pamela…
The official trailer begins in Summer 1971, with a young Jason Voorhees drowning in Crystal Lake. From there, the series jumps forward in time to shine the spotlight on Pamela Voorhees and her rage over the death of her young son… though as we know, he’s not quite dead. Pamela believes Jason is still out there somewhere, and the trailer suggests that the series will reveal how Jason is able to seemingly come back from the dead and become the character we all know.
“What do you think the good people of Crystal Lake would say if they knew what you and Jason really were?” a character says to Mrs. Voorhees in the trailer. It’s a line that’s sure to grab the attention of longtime Friday the 13th fans, as none of the films ever quite explained how Jason died as a child and was soon thereafter a fully grown madman prowling the woods of Crystal Lake.

Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson (“Chucky”) playing young Jason Voorhees.
The series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?
Brad Caleb Kane (“IT: Welcome to Derry”) is the showrunner for the series.

The eight-episode Peacock horror prequel series was directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (“The Pitt”).
