With this month being the 20th anniversary of “the last great PlayStation game” (according to Next Generation magazine) in the form of Metal Gear Solid (check out Mike’s retrospective and Neil’s talk about the horror within the series, by the way), a former Crytek artist came up with a sweet little tribute for the game.
Erasmus Brosdau, an art director who worked on Crysis, Ryse and Star Citizen, has created the perfect send-up by recreating the opening scene of Metal Gear Solid using Unreal Engine 4, Unreal marketplace assets, and the original audio from the cutscene (tweaked, mind you). And dammit if it isn’t almost spot-on throughout. Brosdau even included the updated Konami logo at the start of the cutscene, complete with the Snatcher jingle!
While it seems highly unlikely that we’ll ever get a remaster of Metal Gear Solid (because, you know, Konami), if you have a Gamecube, you can snag Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes as a (sort of) remaster. Or, if you’re an old-school retro gamer, just pick up and play the original. But really, do you need a reason to play Metal Gear Solid?
