Sequel to ‘Super Meat Boy’, ‘Super Meat Boy Forever’, Announced For April 2019

Published

UPDATE: It’s been brought to our attention that the game is in fact not coming to Steam for at least a year, and will instead be released on Epic’s Epic Games Store first!

Relentlessly difficult as it was entertaining, Super Meat Boy was one of those early success stories from Xbox Live Arcade back in 2010. Even if you messed up the platforming (or while figuring it out), there was something satisfying about splattering Meat Boy, and seeing his bloody remains on the ground. And now, Team Meat are back with to announce the sequel, Super Meat Boy Forever!

Set for release in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS, Android, PC and Linux, the game looks to expand upon the platforming of the original by adding other movement mechanics such as sliding and air dashing. On top of that, you’ll now have enemies that you’ll have to punch and kick out of your way as you manoeuvre between sawblades and other over-the-top obstacles.

The story for this one has Meat Boy and Bandage Girl settling down and having a daughter named Nugget. Things are pretty peaceful, until the previous game’s antagonist, Dr. Fetus, returns and kidnaps Nugget. It’s up to Meat Boy and Bandage Girl to battle through 7200 levels (yes, you read that right) and battle huge bosses to get Nugget back, and defeat Dr. Fetus.

While there’s not a heck of a lot at the moment, you can keep up with the game on Steam.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
