It’s been a while coming, but Apogee and developer Trigger Happy Interactive have revealed the VR edition of Total Chaos for SteamVR. Coming soon at no additional cost to Total Chaos owners on Steam, a standalone Meta Quest version is also available to wishlist now. No word on if the VR version would be headed to the PlayStation VR2.
Revealed during the VR Games Showcase, this newly tailored edition will bring the survival horror experience uncomfortably close to the player. The VR Edition has been thoughtfully adapted around virtual-reality play, rather than simply transferring the original experience into a headset. Item locations and resource distribution have been reworked, while select sections have been altered and rebalanced to suit VR interaction and pacing. The result preserves the oppressive atmosphere, brutal combat, and psychological horror of Total Chaos while offering returning players a fresh journey through Fort Oasis.
Originally created as an award-winning total conversion mod for DOOM II, Total Chaos evolved into a fully standalone survival horror title defined by its oppressive atmosphere and relentless tension. Players are pulled into the abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate island once considered a prosperous home by its coal-mining community. Now, a suffocating presence hangs over its ruins, creating the inescapable sensation that something is always watching.
Monstrosities stalk the island’s darkest corners, trapping anyone daring enough to enter its depths. To survive, players must scavenge materials, craft weapons, carefully manage limited resources, and piece together remnants of forgotten lives. Each discovery brings them closer to the truth behind the downfall of Fort Oasis, and their own connection to it before their sanity runs dry.
Total Chaos is also available on GOG and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
