A double dose of Mortal Kombat this morning. For starters (and the big one) is that in response yesterday to a fan question regarding character reveals, the official Twitter account for Mortal Kombat 11 had this to say:
Let's say next week on January 17th at 11am?
We'll show you some gameplay, a little story, and maybe give you some character reveals. How does that sound?
— Mortal Kombat 11 (@MortalKombat) January 8, 2019
And this morning, the account basically confirmed that by posting this:

So yeah, mark down January 17th at 11am PST for your big reveal. Or should I say, “Prepare yourself.”?
That was a reference to the original Mortal Kombat ad campaign, by the way.
And speaking of the original Mortal Kombat, a Twitter user by the name of Laser Sauce! scored a little something in the form of a prototype of an HD remake of Mortal Kombat!
Somebody sent me an unfinished Mortal Kombat HD prototype.
and it looks incredible already! pic.twitter.com/t0o9FUpcM7

For those unaware, there have been a couple of fan remakes floating around for a while that unfortunately got slapped with Cease & Desist notices, but some footage and unfinished demos have found their way into fans’ hands. In fact, according to DSOGaming, you can download and play one of the prototypes! The other known prototypes include one made in GameMaker, and another in Unity.
Seeing as these are prototypes, they aren’t free of glitches/freezes, nor are they particularly polished. The GameMaker version, however, does have Scorpion and Sub-Zero available for play, as well as their fatalities. So, while we wait until next week, you can check out these fan remakes, and hope that one day, Ed Boon and company decide to give the original (or in my opinion, the superior MKII) an official remake.
Mortal Kombat 11 is due out April 23, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
