Classic FMV Horror Game ‘The 7th Guest’ to Receive 25th Anniversary Edition in April

Published

Back in ye olden days, there was this phenomenon called FMV. You could have high-quality video being played off of CDs in games. The first game to really hit home with the concept was Trilobyte’s classic The 7th Guest. It’s still revered today (and even got an unofficial fan-made sequel). And now, with these FMV games making a small comeback in recent years, the original game is getting a 25th Anniversary Edition update, courtesy of MojoTouch.

Spotted on Steam, this version is different than the earlier reworking that was previously available on Android.

New to this version of the game are a revamped control scheme, hotspot-based navigation (with the option to highlight all hotspots in each game screen), the ability to skip scenes, a completely new map that can be accessed in-game, a completely revamped save/load system, and three different music options (the remastered score, the original score in MIDI, or the Adlib version), and improved voice acting and audio (with subtitles).

There will also be a “retro” option to play with the original graphics, original music and the original controls.

And that’s not all! When you purchase the game, you’ll also receive ‘The Making of’ featurette, 19 deleted scenes and 34 deleted audio parts, the game’s soundtrack, ‘The 7th Guest’ novel, the Original Script, ‘The Stauf Files’ booklet, the original game Manual, and the legacy edition of the game as DLC for Windows, macOS and Linux.

The 7th Guest: 25th Anniversary Edition unlocks April 2nd.

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.

This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.

You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?

“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.

“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”

Barron Boedecker (Escape Pod, The Bigfoot Trap), Brent Bentley (The Perfect In-Laws, Haunt Season), Deiondre Teagle (The Visitor, Painted in Blood, Death Ranch), Chelsey Fuller (The Bigfoot Trap, The Silent Natural), Jesse Santoyo (A Nashville Country Christmas, Potter’s Ground), and Adam Pietripaoli (The Bigfoot Trap, The OctoGames) star.
