Old-school adventure gamers remember Revolution Software’s dystopian cyberpunk game Beneath a Steel Sky. As with many games that were critically acclaimed, it didn’t sell all that well (despite the early-to-mid 90s being the pinnacle for point-and-click adventure games).
Nonetheless, Revolution Software (which also handled the fantastic Broken Sword series) have announced the sequel in Beyond a Steel Sky. Unlike the first game, which used the traditional pixel-based graphics, Beyond a Steel Sky will feature “comic-book-styled” graphics by award-winning comics artist Dave Gibbons, who also provided the background art for Beneath a Steel Sky.
And like the first game, Beyond will have a vein of humor in its dialogue against the dystopic world that Beneath a Steel Sky designer and Revolution Software founder and CEO Charles Cecil states will be a “modern day 1984“.
Beyond a Steel Sky is expected to be out later this year for PC and the recently-announced Apple Arcade. If you haven’t played Beneath a Steel Sky yet (and you have no reason NOT to), you can get it for free from GOG.com.
