Those Nintendo Switch fans hoping to see Bethesda’s upcoming RAGE 2 appear on the console may want to look elsewhere for the time being.
In an interview with DualShockers at PAX East 2019, developer id Software studio director Tim Willits did confirm that while the devs did look into porting their upcoming open-world post-apocalyptic shooter to the Switch, as is the case with many of these games, the Switch’s hardware shortcomings are the sticking point.
“Well, we’ve been looking into [porting the game to the Switch]. It’s just the technology, there are some challenges,” says Willits. “But we’re always looking for future platforms and future people to work with. So, we like to investigate, but we have no plans for that right now.”
Bethesda has been successful in the past in bringing some of their hits to the Switch, such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. And Capcom was able (albeit in Japan only) to bring Resident Evil VII to the Switch. So who knows? Perhaps once the title is released, Bethesda will be able to work on bringing it to Nintendo’s console?
RAGE 2 will release on May 14 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
