Cut Content Reveals ‘Bloodborne’ Boss Was Originally Companion NPC

Lance McDonald is back again with a new cut goodie from Bloodborne. It seems that From Software had different plans for the game’s first mandatory boss, Father Gascoigne.

In the reconstructed Alpha version, Lance was able to discover that Gascoigne was originally just another NPC that you would encounter as a Hunter, appearing on the Great Bridge and fending off foes. He even had dialogue when you finish helping him clear out the enemies.

From there, Gascoigne sticks to you as a partner, helping you out with any foes you encounter. He had more lines of cut text, and was able to be defeated by enemies. Interestingly enough, one of his unused lines was used for the trailer that was shown at The Game Awards 2014.

In case you missed it, Lance has previously been able to uncover a cut boss from Bloodborne, as well as some cut content from another of From Software’s hits in Dark Souls 3.

From Software’s latest game (which takes inspiration from the Souls and Bloodborne games), Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which we previously reviewed, is out now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
