The Mortal Kombat games, with their ultra-violence and extreme gore, have always been tailor made for horror fans, but more recent installments have taken that horror fan service to a whole new level by literally bringing iconic horror characters into the game. The first to do it was 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9, which included Freddy Krueger as a playable DLC fighter.
In fact, Freddy was the first ever movie character to be brought into a MK game!
Much to the chagrin of many die-hard Nightmare on Elm Street fans, Freddy’s appearance in the 2011 game was based on the 2009 remake rather than the Robert Englund-starring original franchise, and the decision was made to give him two gloves rather than one. Oddly enough, that’s the version of Freddy that later appeared in last year’s Ready Player One.
In any event, another fun addition to Mortal Kombat 9 was the return of Babalities, a uniquely absurd type of Fatality that was first introduced in 1993’s Mortal Kombat II. Essentially, rather than disemboweling your victim after you’ve defeated them, Babalities allow you to instead add ultimate insult to injury by, well, literally turning them into crying babies.
And yes, Mortal Kombat 9 even allowed you to turn Freddy into a baby, with the character’s Babality triggering a cut-scene wherein Freddy is reduced to a diaper-wearing infant.
With Mortal Kombat back on the mind in the wake of Mortal Kombat 11‘s release, we couldn’t help but recall how absurd this was. Hey it’s a slow news day, what do you want from us?
Oh and by the way, rumored DLC fighters for Mortal Kombat 11 include Spawn, Ash Williams and the Terminator. They haven’t been confirmed at this time, but that’s the rumor!
