Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil 2’ Remake Sells 4.2 million Copies, ‘Devil May Cry 5’ at 2.1 million

To no one’s surprise, in a fiscal update to their “Platinum Titles” listings for titles which have sold over one million units, Capcom have announced that their mega-hit Resident Evil 2 remake has hauled in 4.2 million units sold since its launch back in January. It still hasn’t caught up with the original version for the PlayStation, which sold 4.96 million units, but that’s just a matter of time.

Capcom’s other big release this year, Devil May Cry 5, has sold 2.1 million units. It still has a way to go to beating Devil May Cry 4‘s 3 million units, but it’s closer to surpassing DmC: Devil May Cry‘s haul of 2.4 million units sold.

Meanwhile, Monster Hunter World continues to crush with its 12.4 million units sold. And, with the upcoming Iceborne expansion, you can expect that number to climb even more.

On top of all that, Capcom has revealed that along with their financial update, when asked about any future games that are being developed with the RE Engine, Capcom responded that “there are numerous titles currently being developed internally” with the engine.

Capcom also touched on next-generation game development, and specifically how the RE Engine will be used in the future. “The games we developed using the RE Engine during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim, and from the early stages of building this engine, we kept the ability to augment it for next-generation development in mind,” the publisher stated. “As such, we view the RE Engine as one of our strengths that will contribute to next-generation game creation.”

Time to begin the speculation.

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.

This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.

You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?

“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.

“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”

Barron Boedecker (Escape Pod, The Bigfoot Trap), Brent Bentley (The Perfect In-Laws, Haunt Season), Deiondre Teagle (The Visitor, Painted in Blood, Death Ranch), Chelsey Fuller (The Bigfoot Trap, The Silent Natural), Jesse Santoyo (A Nashville Country Christmas, Potter’s Ground), and Adam Pietripaoli (The Bigfoot Trap, The OctoGames) star.
