Modified Version of ‘DayZ’ Granted Classification in Australia

Published

on

DayZ is officially off the hook in Australia. After Australia’s Classification Board was set to ban Bohemia Interactive’s open world zombie survival game over its depiction of marijuana use, the Classification Board has issued a new MA15+ classification, allowing the game to be sold in the country.

However, the new classification comes at a cost, as a modified version of the game was submitted for approval. This version has removed the offending depictions of drug use from the game, which involved the use of marijuana as a health item. Frustratingly, marijuana isn’t currently in the official build of the game, as it was set to arrive via DLC. Even more frustrating is that this change affects all regions, so North American and European players get the censored version, as well.

This echoes a similar situation with Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few, where the game was initially refused classification over the fictional drug “Joy” being used in the game. The game was granted a classification on appeal, with no changes made.

The game is still not available for purchase in Australia yet, however that should change within the next few days.

2007 FPS Horror Game ‘Dementium: The Ward’ Heads to PlayStation Today [Trailer]

Published

on

In a blast from the past, developer atooi will release today Dementium: The Ward for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The first-person horror shooter originally got its start on the Nintendo DS back in 2007, before making its way to the 3DS in 2015, and finally landing on the Switch last October.

The PlayStation version of Dementium offers up “crunchy retro” and revamped HD display modes (presumably, this is similar to the free update the Switch version received last year), and has been “built from the ground up for the big screen”. Obviously, the game will lose its touchscreen capabilities from the Nintendo consoles, but will still run at a silky 60 frames per second.

Dementium: The Ward centres around William Redmoor, a man with amnesia, who wakes up in a seemingly abandoned medical ward. He soon finds out that he’s not quite as alone as he initially thought, as demonic creatures are roaming the hospital. Equipped with a flashlight and a nightstick, William must not only fend off the creatures, but also solve puzzles and find the exit and escape.

No word on if the sequel, Dementium II (which was also originally released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS), will be given the same treatment.
