Remember That New ‘Evil Dead’ Video Game? Bruce Campbell Updates

Published

on

Back in August of 2018, you may recall, Bruce Campbell had told us that he’s voicing Ash for an upcoming Evil Dead video game, and he subsequently provided other tidbits of information that we’ve been covering here on Bloody Disgusting. What we’ve learned, so far, is that the game is being developed for consoles, and it is *not* a virtual reality experience.

Speaking with Diabolique Magazine this week, Campbell provides another little update on the mysterious upcoming game, teasing that a 2021 release is planned at this time.

I have been looking at and approving a bunch of new stuff. They are full-fledged, full bore into it,” Campbell told interviewer Susan Leighton. “I think they are talking 2021 for an actual release. It’s rolling along, looking great. It got delayed because of the nightmare of video games. Platforms change and evolve. You look at somebody else’s games and go, ‘Shit! We have to change everything now.’ We have to stay current.”

He adds, “I have to finish doing the voice work.”

Be sure to head over to Diabolique to read Susan’s full interview with Bruce.

Over the years, Campbell voiced Ash for multiple Evil Dead video games, including Evil Dead: Hail to the King, Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick and Evil Dead: Regeneration.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Lovecraftian Horror Adventure Game ‘ASYLUM’ Coming to Consoles Later This Year [Trailer]

Released on Steam and GOG last year, SOEDESCO has finally announced that they’ll be bringing their Lovecraftian horror adventure title ASYLUM to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and the Nintendo Switch later this year. The team also teased that as part of the upcoming Halloween season, there will be “more coming” for those who already own the game on PC.

Announced way back in 2010, ASYLUM is the spiritual successor to the 2006 cult title, Scratches. The game is crafted in the grindhouse style of 80s horror (including its soundtrack) and drawing inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s stories, the iconic gothic style of Hammer Films, and the twisted horror legacy of Lucio Fulci.

Players take on the role of a former patient of the Hanwell Mental Institute, who is haunted by unsettling visions as they explore the decaying mental institution. You must explore the intricate layout of the building, research its past history, and march towards a shocking conclusion. Rather than relying on constant jump scares, the game builds tension through its oppressive setting, its haunting soundtrack inspired by classic 80s horror films and the work of John Carpenter, and a narrative “carefully crafted over 15 years of development.”
