‘Resident Evil 2’ Mod ‘Resident Evil: During The Storm’ Demo Available Now

Published

on

In case you’ve been living unaware, the Resident Evil franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary this month, and so leave it to the fans to go the extra mile. In this case, the folks at Biohazard Declassified are back with another update to the Resident Evil 2 mod, Resident Evil: During The Storm, which just so happens to include a demo!

As we’ve covered before, During The Storm is a Resident Evil 2 total conversion mod that takes place at the very start of the “Raccoon City Incident”, and uses the same engine. However, it introduces an entirely new experience for players, focusing on Resident Evil Outbreak‘s Kevin Ryman. The team hopes to “bridge the gap” between RE2 and Outbreak with this mod, staying true to the established lore with both stories.

Lead by Resevilnemesis30, the mod introduces some pretty significant gameplay mechanics. For starters, the mod introduces a timer to the game, which “signifies changes in the environment and windows in which certain actions can be completed.” The result leads to one of eight possible endings for you to discover, as well as the potential for your allies to be killed, depending on the situation.

Not only that, but enemies will now follow you from room to room. You’ll be able to counter them by having keys to lock the doors, but this won’t always keep them back. There are also some new enemies for you to encounter, making the experience much different than what you’d expect from a simple mod.

Kevin’s inventory is also limited to six slots this time around, and upgrades will no longer be combined with their base weapon. To add some “flavour”, item boxes aren’t always available, either. You’ll also be finding more ammo boxes for select weapon upgrades, rather than base ammo. Meaning, you might not always have the necessary ammo for the best weapon for the situation.

You can read up more on the mod on its official site, where you can also download a demo. The team hopes to have this mod completed for players later this year.
