New ‘Dead Space’ Remake Dev Update Examines Audio Enhancements; Release Window Pushed to 2023 [Video]

on

As was expected, EA and Motive’s newest developer update on the production of the upcoming Dead Space remake focused on the audio. Motive’s Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola, Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme, and Audio Director Olivier Asselin were joined by Jack Pattillo to discuss the team’s goal of taking the original Dead Space’s award-winning audio design “to the next level”, while still remaining faithful to the iconic atmosphere.

In addition to comparing the original Dead Space‘s audio (such as Isaac’s iconic Plasma Cutter) to the remake, the group discussed how the remake will employ audio occlusion in its materials and surfaces, and how it would affect sounds travelling down the corridors of the Ishimura. In addition, thanks to the new A.L.I.V.E. System, players will be that much more immersed in the game with Isaac’s heart rate and breathing.

And as reported yesterday, Dead Space has indeed been pushed to a 2023 release. EA tweeted out the new release window just after the dev update.

Dead Space is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.
