Damage State Details the Dark Powers You’ll Wield in ‘Scathe’ [Video]

Back in February, we mentioned Kwalee and developer Damage State’s upcoming bullet hell shooter Scathe. Not only does the game now have a release date, but as part of China’s BiliBili Games Charging Festival, the devs have released a new demo showcasing the action-packed gameplay, as well as a new devlog on Scathe‘s development.

In the devlog, Chris from Damage State gives an overview of Scathe‘s Dark Magic mechanic. The story goes that the player can find Dark Mages in Hell that are in possession of relics. Defeating these Dark Mages allows you to take possession of these relics, which in turn grant you new abilities. With these relics, you’ll be able to heal yourself, freeze your enemies, and even crush them to a bloody pulp.

If you’ve not heard of Scathe, the game puts you in the role of the Enforcer of the Legions of Hell. You’ve got to prove your worth by navigating the mazes of Hell, all the while collecting the Hellstones to escape, and handing out punishment to the demonic evils within. All the while, you’ll be engaged in fast-paced firefights and dodging waves of enemy bullets while using your arsenal of weaponry (and Dark Magic) to dish out punishment of your own.

And in case you need backup, Scathe also supports drop-in/drop-out multiplayer with crossplay. You can have up to three friends join you in the fight. Though you and your friends will have to be responsible in your firefights, as everyone shares the same pool of lives.

Damage State’s Scathe is scheduled to arrive on PC via Steam on August 31, with console releases coming later this year. Meanwhile, the BiliBili Games Charging Festival runs from July 15 to August 15th.

Thanks to DreadXP for the heads up.
