‘Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse’ Heads to Nintendo Switch Next Year!

Published

All those fans who bought the remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water have been rewarded with another entry in the series. This time, it’s the formerly Japan-only Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, which is coming to the Nintendo Switch next year! This is also the first time that the game will be seeing an official English release.

Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse will arrive on the Switch in “early 2023“. The game will also be headed to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

Originally released for the Nintendo Wii back in 2008, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is set on the fictional Rougetsu Island. Suspected serial killer Yō Haibara kidnaps five girls from their rooms in a sanatorium. One of whom is Ruka Minazuki. Eight years after their rescue, and still suffering from amnesia, Ruka and the two of the surviving girls, Misaki Asō and Madoka Tsukimori, return to the island to discover the truth about their pasts. As with previous entries in the Fatal Frame series, the gameplay once again revolves around using the Camera Obscura to defeat ghosts while exploring the island.

Lifetime sales of the original Mask of the Lunar Eclipse total 75,000 units, making it the best-selling entry in the series.

Upcoming Narrative Horror Title ‘Still Wakes the Deep’ Getting PS5 Physical Version

Physical media fanatics can rejoice when it comes to The Chinese Room and publisher Secret Mode’s upcoming narrative horror game Still Wakes the Deep. Alongside the digital version of the game that’s set to launch on June 18 on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, PlayStation owners will also be able to snag the physical version of Still Wakes the Deep on the same day.

Described as a welcome update for console players “whose greatest fear is the death of physical media,” the Still Wakes the Deep physical edition will be available from online and retail stores in North America and Europe. No word on if the Xbox Series will be getting the same treatment.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any additional goodies with the physical disc. But, given that this guarantees you’ll have a copy of Still Wakes the Deep that you can pop into your console and play without the need to download it again, that’s a small price to pay.

Still Wakes the Deep takes place in 1975, where disaster has struck the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland. You are one of the oil rig workers on the Beira D rig, fighting for his life through a vicious storm, perilous surroundings, and the dark, freezing North Sea waters. All lines of communication have been severed. All exits are gone. And something has snuck on board, leaving you to not only restore function to the rig, but also deal with the unknowable horror.

And keep an eye out for the upcoming mini documentary on Still Wakes the Deep, which is scheduled to arrive around April 30th.
