Bloober Team Assures ‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake’s Story Will be Faithful to Original

Published

After the unsurprising (but still very welcome) reveal of the Silent Hill 2 remake, things have been fairly quiet on the game’s development. Apart from Bloober Team stating that the game is nearing the finish line a few months back, there hasn’t been much meat for fans. Luckily, DreadXP sat down with Bloober Team’s Anna Jasińska to glean some info on Silent Hill 2, as well as Bloober Team’s other current project, Layers of Fears.

Regarding Silent Hill 2, the project came about after Konami invited Bloober Team to Tokyo Games Show back in 2019. It was at the show that Konami approached Bloober Team to design a concept of a remake for SH2 “in exchange for the opportunity of bringing the concept to life”. According to Jasińska, Konami was wowed by Bloober Team’s concept. “They recognized our commitment and passion for horror, and that alone was an enormous distinction for us.”

As for how the team is approaching the remake, Jasińska says that the developer is focused on bringing the original game’s “visceral atmosphere” into the remake. Anna also assures fans that the team is striving to avoid “missing the point” with the remake. “We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up. These are the reasons why Konami entrusted us with the remake in the first place.”

Anna continued, saying that Bloober Team are “not straying away from the original concept of making this cult classic; we just have some ideas on how to make the peculiar scare factors more appealing to the contemporary audience.”

As for Layers of Fears (which is due out this year), Bloober Team states that this is not Layers of Fear 3. Rather, Layers of Fears is “a completely new video game concept” that “fuses the best elements of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 with new gameplay mechanics, topped with an all-new storyline never seen before.”

That being said, fans of the first two games will recognize the “connecting narrative” that exists with those games in Layers of Fears. “The new chapters in [Layers of Fears] will show how the aforementioned titles blend into one complete magnum opus. As for new fans, they will experience all the best things that define the Layers franchise without feeling lost in the plot.”

Layers of Fears is currently in development for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. Silent Hill 2 is currently in development for PC via Steam and the PlayStation 5, with the Xbox Series coming at a later date.
