Hot on the heels of news of The Outlast Trials heading to consoles in the new year, Red Barrels have introduced the time-limited “Winter Kills” event for fans, on now through to January 9. The event features new cosmetics and challenges, quality of life improvements such as full controller support, and more in-game lore to discover.

For starters, “Winter Kills” features the new Cold Snap and Find the Gifts variators for missions. The former sees the environment sporadically filled with piercing cold air, where you must hide to survive, whereas the latter tasks you with finding all the gifts in the Trial to earn extra rewards.

That’s alongside the new festive-themed character and sleep room enhancement cosmetics, which you can earn by completing exclusive trials and challenges. That’s alongside the new deluxe decoration packages for your personal cell. And speaking of challenges, players can head back to the Courthouse for two new tests in Escape the Courthouse and Destroy the Evidence.

As for you lore junkies, there are new evidence documents for you to discover that shed more light on the Murkoff Institute.

The update also includes the aforementioned controller support enhancements, as well as the usual bug fixes and balancing.

The fun doesn’t end after January 9, however. Red Barrels has also teased an update roadmap, which features upcoming weekly events in The Outlast Trials.

Currently available in Early Access on Steam, The Outlast Trials will be exiting Early Access and arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on March 5, 2024.
