‘Sons of the Forest’ Leaving Early Access, Launching in Full on February 22 [Trailer]

Published

Almost a year to the day that developer Endnight Games launched Sons of the Forest into Early Access on Steam, the developer has announced that the open-world survival game will be leaving the service and launching in full on February 22. Accompanying the announcement is the 1.0 launch trailer for Sons of the Forest, courtesy of IGN.

The 1.0 launch will also include a big change in the game with Timmy LeBlanc, now voiced by Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, Alan Wake II, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan). Endnight made the announcement via X, stating that Timmy’s role in Sons of the Forest will be expanded upon in the game and story, but didn’t elaborate on either point. The game does make allusions to this, with Timmy seemingly knowing more about the island than you, including an impending significant event.

Similar to the 2018 original, Sons of the Forest sees you trapped on a cannibal-infested island after being sent to find a missing billionaire. You’ll be relying heavily on survival skills to survive. Survival is the name of the game, as is the interaction. You’ll be breaking sticks to make fires, and using an axe to cut out windows and floors.

In our review of the Early Access version of Sons of the Forest, Brandon remarked that the game is “a solid and somewhat slow-paced survival-horror experience” that was very easy to sink hours into, thanks to the resource gathering and venturing into caves to battle the monsters on the island.

What the Fog wasn’t the only new announcement during the 8th anniversary livestream for Dead by Daylight . Behaviour Interactive is pulling out another out of nowhere crossover this time with Dungeons & Dragons. On top of that, fans will be treated to a Castlevania Chapter later in the year, as well as the long-awaited 2v8 Mode.

Coming June 3rd, Dead by Daylight: Dungeons & Dragons will introduce iconic D&D villain Vecna, known in Dead by Daylight as The Lich, as the new Killer. Meanwhile, a Bard, Aestri Yazar is the new Survivor. The new Chapter will also include a new map, Forgotten Ruins, taking players to a mysterious dungeon full of easter eggs for longtime D&D fans. Staples such as getting loot, magical items, and rolling dice will also be woven into the gameplay.

Players can try out the new Killer, Survivors, and gameplay features in the Public Test-Build, available now.

Meanwhile, the 2v8 Game Mode was announced for Dead by Daylight, offering a brand-new gameplay experience. The widely-requested mode will see 2 Killers face off against 8 Survivors on a much larger map. To ramp up the action, several gameplay adjustments have been made including the replacement of Perks for what essentially amounts to a class system and the addition of Cages instead of Hooks. More information on the 2v8 Game Mode will be revealed in a future livestream this July.

The good news didn’t end there, as fans were also treated to the enigmatic Project T, an in-development PvE action-horror shooter. Players will be able to join the Insider Program to receive exclusive news, and the chance to participate in playtests and share their ideas and feedback on the game.

Regarding The Casting of Frank Stone, which Behaviour has been teasing with small lore clips over the past week, a new gameplay trailer was revealed, hinting at the game’s branching narrative as the creation of an independent movie “unlocks horrors beyond comprehension.”

Lastly, Castlevania will be joining Dead by Daylight later this year as a new Chapter. Details will be revealed later this year, but fans did get a glimpse of what to expect with a teaser trailer.
