Grow Your Cult and Conquer the Land in Lovecraftian City Builder ‘Worshippers of Cthulhu’ [Trailer]

Published

on

We’ve had plenty of Lovecraftian cult simulators, so leave it to a developer like Crazy Goat Games to come up with a Lovecraftian city builder. Worshippers of Cthulhu is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The game will launch in Early Access in later this year, followed by a full release across all platforms in 2025.

According to the devs, since Cthulhu “tolerates nothing less than perfection”, the game will head to Early Access in order to deliver a “polished and immersive experience,” with the plan to “allow players to spend much more time with the game and go even deeper into the Cthulhu and city-building mechanics.”

As you might of expected, the story for Worshippers of Cthulhu has you leading the eponymous cult, with the goal of guiding your flock towards the ultimate goal of awakening Cthulhu. Every decision rests upon your shoulders; will you lead your followers to toil in servitude, conquer the unbelievers, or offer up their souls to hasten Cthulhu’s awakening?

Players will build cities upon multiple islands, sustaining their followers and thriving through connection with Cthulhu. Manage production chains, workers, and dangerous ruins to expand your dominion. Cthulhu isn’t the only Old One you’ll be dabbling with, as you will be performing rituals to engage with Dagon and other entities from Lovecraft’s mythology.

In regards to those pesky non-believers, you’ll be conquering, pillaging, sacrificing, or even converting them, as they’ll be a source of land, resources, and manpower for your cult. It’s all wrapped up in Lovecraft’s language and writing style, ensuring an immersive experience.

Cult of the Lamb players will be getting more free goodies later this summer with the Unholy Alliance update. Coming August 12, the update introduces a brand new playable character in the Goat, which coincides with the game allowing local co-op.

With the Unholy Alliance update, the entire Cult of the Lamb campaign will be playable in local co-op. Players will also be able to enjoy special 2-player versions of existing mini-games, such as Fishing and Knucklebones, as well as choose from a selection of weapons, tarot cards, curses, and corrupted relics as your cooperative crusades progress.

The Lamb and Goat can also swap weapons, deal extra damage when fighting back to back, and even deliver a critical hit when their attacks are in sync. Good news for those who prefer to stay alone in their corner: they will be able to benefit from various new powers.

In addition to the addition of cooperative play, the Unholy Alliance expansion adds several tarot cards, relics, buildings, fleeces, character traits and quests, as well as the addition of new secrets to discover.

More information on the update will be released as the launch date creeps closer. Cult of The Lamb is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
