Not to be content with just announcing Stygian: Outer Gods, Fulqrum Publishing has also revealed a new Lovecraftian FPS in Decadent. Developed by Incantation Games, Decadent is described as a story-driven first-person shooter that “combines atmospheric exploration, Lovecraftian horror and combat into an immersive experience.”

Decadent tells the tale of one John Lorn, a royal explorer and World War 1 veteran turned occultist. To make things even more interesting, as a result of a traumatic experience during his occult research, Lorn has become the host for a strange parasite. Lorn has traveled to the to the Arctic to follow the traces of a lost Miskatonic University expedition. At the same time, he’s also on a mission to save his estranged son. In doing so, his courage and sanity are pushed to the limit, and learn how much grief he is ready to cause in order to save someone he holds dear.

You’ll have at your disposal exotic weapons and special items, such as conventional 1920’s firearms to hexed pistols given occult properties, strange artifacts, and even alien bio-weapons. You’ll also be able to scavenge and customize your arsenal. You’ll need them as you venture into lightless forests, frozen tundras, underground lakes, timeless necropoli and more in your frantic journey to a land beyond all reason.

And as you’d expect, Decadent also features a dynamic sanity system that can lead to hallucinations or panic attacks. That’s in addition to the game’s “progression lite system” that allows players to alter certain vital stats with various artifacts.

Currently, Decadent is slated for release next year on Steam.

After blowing fans away last week with the announcement of The Thing: Remastered, Nightdive Studio has taken the opportunity to launch a bi-weekly podcast called “Deep Dive” that delves into the development team and its work on remastering beloved titles. Along with some of Nightdive’s more recent releases, the first episode naturally focuses on The Thing: Remastered.

Hosted by Dimitris Giannakis (aka the Modern Vintage Gamer) with co-hosts Morgan Shaver (Nightdive’s Comms Manager) and Locke Vincent (Nightdive’s Video Producer), the first episode of Deep Dive sees the trio chat with development team working on The Thing: Remastered, and even reaches back even further and chats with Mark Atkinson, one of the original directors and programmers of Computer Artworks’ 2002 The Thing.

The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter game inspired by Universal Pictures’ genre-defining 1982 film by John Carpenter. Nightdive Studios has upgraded this classic for the modern era through its proprietary KEX Engine for play on current-generation gaming devices up to a 4K resolution at 120FPS. Improvements to character models, textures, and animations have been hand-crafted by Nightdive Studios, with the implementation of advanced 3D rendering for updated lighting and atmospheric effects.

The Thing: Remastered arrives later this year on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
