Upcoming Asymmetrical Multiplayer Title ‘Soul Walker’ Aims to Offer Unique Take On the Genre [Teaser]

Epoch Media Studios are looking to mix up the PvP genre with their upcoming title Soul Walker. Drawing inspiration from heavyweight titles such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Dead by Daylight, and Alien Isolation, the game is currently part of the Xbox Developer Acceleration Program, and will also be coming to Steam.

“Our goal is to deliver an immersive experience with innovative gameplay mechanics, compelling storytelling, and visually stunning design,” says Epoch Media’s CEO and Creative Director, Jeffery Thompson Jr.

Originally intended as a film script, Soul Walker was instead transitioned into a video game. Details on the game are still being kept under wraps, but Epoch Media let Vice in on a few details during a recent playtest. The game casts you as the eponymous creature, or as a lone survivor in a cat-and-mouse battle. As the Soul Walker, you must rely on sound rather than sight to locate the Survivor. Audio clues when the Survivor runs past objects will aid the Soul Walker in pinpointing where to go. You’ve also got several abilities to help you manoeuvre as well as incapacitate your target.

Meanwhile, the Survivor can fight back with the use of crystals scattered around the stage, which can be thrown at the Soul Walker to buy yourself some time. However, you’ll need to be smart, as holding onto the crystals for too long will cause them to explode, leaving you in complete blackness.

At the moment, things are still early in development. You can keep track on updates for Soul Walker by signing up at the official site.
