Rumour: New ‘Alien’ Survival Horror Game in Development at Eidos Montreal

Published

on

Alien fans will purportedly have another video game to look forward to in the next couple of years. Per Insider Gaming, the title is currently in the works over at Eidos Montreal, and is being described as “Shadow of The Tomb Raider with xenomorphs”.

Neither Eidos Montreal nor parent group Embracer have commented on the story so far, so keep that salt shaker handy.

According to Insider Gaming sources, this new game, which has been in the works since 2020 and still classified as being in “early development”, is a single-player arcade survival horror game that drops players onto a decaying space station. As you’d expect, there’s a bug infestation aboard the station, and you’ve got to escape. Along with xenomorphs, players will also be dealing with a spec ops unit trying to mop things up.

What makes this story even more interesting is that the project, once codenamed “Marathon,” has been off and on in development for a while. The game has also had a rocky development, having switched developers multiple times before Eidos Montreal was handed the reins.

As one would expect from the genre, the gameplay is a mix of combat and puzzles, as well as resource management. There’s also some stealth and platforming in the mix. As for the puzzles, they apparently range from repairing machinery to hacking codes.

As for the combat, this new game’s AI looks to rival Alien: Isolation in terms of scaring the pants off of you, as your foes will adapt and react to whatever tactics you use.

Documents purportedly reveal at least three main characters. The first, Aubrey, is an engineer armed with items such as grappling hooks and magnetic boots. Another character is Ryuzo, who appears to be an antagonist, using the space station as his fortress.

The third, and perhaps most surprising character, is Alien Resurrection‘s Ripley 8. And yes, there is hope that Sigourney Weaver will reprise the role, but so far, there’s apparently only been talk and not much else.

The game is reportedly budgeted around $75 million, higher than its earlier budget of $30 million from a few years ago. It’s also slated to arrive on all major platforms, with a tentative release date of 2028.
