After the reveal of some beautifully brutal gameplay footage at The Game Awards last December, CI Games has returned with another gameplay trailer for their upcoming souls-like RPG Lords of the Fallen II. The footage offers the longest look yet at the game’s combat, featuring an extended look at new enemies, weapons, spells and more.
In a brand new episode of their ongoing development series ‘Lifting the Veil’, the studio is sticking to its “player first” approach of offering continued updates and directly addressing community feedback. The new video features insights from key members of the development team including game director James Lowe, lead system designer Daniel Regan, producer Alex Harkin, and creative strategist Ryan Hill.
Combat in Lords of the Fallen II will feature a greater sense of speed and maneuverability. Not only can Lampbearers now charge into the fray, the area of control players are expected to manage will be larger, necessitating faster and smarter reaction-time.
As a result, players now have a wider variety of options in combat. Alongside significantly increased weapon variety, players will be able to swap seamlessly between melee, ranged, and spellcasting, encouraging a more eclectic mix of behavior and tactics during combat. Heavy attacks give players more to consider than just greater damage. Players will need to make critical combat decisions on the fly that can either cinch a victory or result in punishment for overextending their hand.
And of course, as we’ve see already, there will be all-new graphic executions that will add further depth to the highly aggressive combat.
Taking place 1,000 years after the fall of the dark god Adyr, Lords of the Fallen II centers around a lone kingdom that stands against the forces of the dead realm known as Umbral and its eldritch master. As the Lampbearer, players can rend enemies limb from limb with a brand new dismemberment feature and silence them forever with all-new executions in a fast and fluid combat system. An even greater wealth of enemy types and epic boss battles will test even the strongest in solo play or best-in-class shared progression co-op.
Lords of the Fallen II will launch later this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
