Exorcise a Spirit Relying on Sound in ‘Peek’; Demo Now Available [Trailer]
Developer Loyal Mussy is venturing into the deduction horror game crowd with its own unique take on the concept in Peek. Coming to Steam, you can get a glimpse (sorry) of what the game entails during Steam Next Fest with its updated demo.
The story concerns Father Herman Goldie aka you, who is summoned by the McFarland family to perform a little exorcism at their house to rid it of its former occupant, the late Edna Maney. Maney’s body was found under mysterious circumstances in the attic weeks ago, and though her remains have been removed, something else still lingers in the house.
As you might expect, you’ll need to perform the exorcism ritual to expel Edna. To do so, you must kneel in the center of a 5×5 grid of blessed salts, where you’ll engage in a terrifying game of Simon. The key difference is that you must do so while your eyes are closed.
Using immersive spatial audio as a key gameplay mechanic, you’ll need to listen as the spirit moves throughout the room, triggering each square’s unique audio clue: a squeaky floorboard, a blood-soaked rug, hanging windchimes, and more. You’ll need to identify the pattern while mapping her movements using only sound. From there, you’ll need to place the correct relics on the active tiles to exorcise the room of her presence.
As you progress, the spirit will demand ever more complex rituals, putting your memory and your ears to the test. And above all, don’t peek!
