While it’s not in that alien universe, Zombie Army developer Rebellion still made a splash at the Xbox Partner Preview with Alien Deathstorm. Set to launch in 2027, this raw, visceral first-person action horror game is currently in development for the Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
While Rebellion is keeping details under wraps for now, the game puts players in the boots of the Combat Engineer, a highly trained first responder, who has been dispatched to a remote, off-world colony that has suffered a complete loss of communications. Arriving days or potentially weeks ahead of a full rescue fleet, your job is to determine what has caused the colony to fall silent and try to save as many lives as possible.
As you land, the Deathstorm is tearing the colony to shreds. You must navigate the ongoing destruction, amid apocalyptic conditions and with the threat of unknown alien horrors. You knew it was going to be bad, but it’s much worse than you thought it would be, and it’s going downhill fast. What you thought was a rescue mission has now become a fight for survival.
According to Ben Fisher, Head of Design at Rebellion, the team has taken influence from “everything from Lovecraftian eldritch horror to 1980s VHS sci-fi” for Alien Deathstorm. “We’ve been inspired by the slightly more analogue world of 1980s sci-fi, which is much more mechanical keyboard than it is touchscreen. We think it’s given our colony a chunky, lived-in aesthetic that has a genuinely unique feel.”
