The road out of Early Access for Lovecraftian action roguelike Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef will end next week, as developers The Fine Arc have announced an August 14 1.0 launch on Steam. Coinciding with the release date is the new The Depths Have Changed Update that introduces three new systems that reshape how players approach every run in the game.
”It’s been three years since the first line of code. Now we’re excited to launch version 1.0 and share what we’ve built together with our awesome community,” says the devteam. “A heartfelt thanks to all the support from our peers and amazing players. You know who you are!”
The first of the new systems is the Curse Dice. As players’ Sanity drops, they unlock the ability to roll up to four dice before each level begins. Mutation effects from these rolls apply to all enemies on the level, while Law effects reshape the level itself — introducing a new layer of risk and reward tied directly to the game’s core Sanity mechanic. The system is presented through a dedicated pixel-art UI screen built to match the game’s aesthetic.
Reload Mechanic Ranged combat now includes a full ammo management layer. Players must weigh the risk of reloading mid-encounter against the rhythm of sustained fire, adding a new tactical dimension to every firefight across the campaign.
Lastly, Room Spawn Events feature hand-crafted, timed encounter compositions which have been placed throughout curated rooms in the campaign, offering players deliberately designed set-piece moments rather than purely procedural encounters.
Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef sees players stuck with enormous debt and a greedy gangster to pay off. It’s time to accept misfortune and risk it all to find the hidden treasure of Devil Reef. You travel to the creepy seaside town of Innsmouth and venture deeper and deeper into the daunting unknown, where piles of gold may await… under the watchful eye of lurking eldritch horrors.
