Co-op Horror Title ‘GRAIN ROT’ Out Now on Steam [Trailer]

Beck & Branch Games and publisher Neem Interactive’s mega-viral co-op extraction horror game GRAIN ROT is out now on PC via Steam, with a limited-time 10% launch discount until August 21. For those who have lost friendships to R.E.P.O. and its loot quota that turns allies into liabilities, GRAIN ROT takes that and gives it a body count that doesn’t stick, a home that remembers, and a world that is actively, visibly rotting.

GRAIN ROT has you play as a Living Spark – an artificial soul riding a fragile wooden vessel through a world where the surface is gone and anything left exposed eventually catches fire. Burn up or get smashed to splinters and the run doesn’t end; your Spark goes looking for a new body, and keeps looking, right up until the final extraction. Death is a formality. It’s also how your friends steal your legs.

Every crew works out of the Sanctuary Outpost, a crumbling high-rise held together by two brothers – Biggie and Murch – and whatever you drag back up the elevator. Loot doesn’t just score the run; it rebuilds the place, and what you rebuild determines what you can carry down next time. Progression lives as much in the hours between runs as in the runs themselves. Lose it all down there and the Outpost feels it.

Beneath the Outpost, the Deep Layers reshape themselves each trip. Loot rarity turns extraction into a risk-versus-reward instead of a scramble to grab everything. You’ll need to take care to watch for the Corrupted – vessels that lost their Sparks, or didn’t lose them completely – moving through the halls and reacting to sound, movement, and sometimes each other in ways that are hard to read until it’s far too late.

The further down you go, the less certain anything gets. Sound and voice distort as the Rot spreads, bodies pick up corruption and mutation, and something as small as an emote turns unsettling. It’s a world where the ruins and the vessels are both decaying from the inside, lit by firelight that feels earned rather than decorative.

Furniture is loot, cover, building material, and currency. Smash a wardrobe for resources, feed the debris to the Grinder for gold, or leave it standing between you and whatever’s coming. Dropkick anything not nailed down. Knock a friend’s Spark clean out of their vessel with a cursed emote and see how the crew handles it – but troll wisely: if everyone breaks, the loot is gone for good.
