We’re less than a month away from when Michael comes home in IllFonic’s Halloween: The Game to PC and consoles. Unfortunately, the Australian Classification Board has put the kibosh on fans down under looking to reserve their copy of the game, as the board has denied Halloween: The Game a rating.
Over on X, the official account for the game was doing some promoting of the game ahead of its September 8 release, to which one Australian fan responded, stating that they were unable to pre-order the game on PlayStation 5.
The social media team responded with the unfortunate news, stating that despite the developer’s best efforts, Halloween: The Game was denied a rating. The reason behind the refusal was not for Michael Myers carving people up, but rather for the presence of a controlled substance.
Sadly, this means that IllFonic can’t sell the game physically or digitally in both Australia and New Zealand.
Australians are unfortunately no stranger to this sort of “thinking” by the Classification Board, as titles like We Happy Few have been denied a rating because of their use of drugs. Fortunately for We Happy Few, the refusal was later overturned, but sadly, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Halloween: The Game. The fact that smoking weed in the game gives players the advantage of knowing where Michael is on the map probably didn’t help matters.
It probably also doesn’t help that you can drink in the game, too. But that adds a detriment to your movement, which would evens things out, don’t you think?
Halloween: The Game will launch digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game will also launch physically on October 6 in two editions.
