Those attending PAX West 2026 will have the opportunity to try the hands-on preview for Santa Barbara Games’ newly-announced 1–4 player co-op survival horror title Voidwood, which is set to launch on Steam in 2027. Set in an inviting but cursed forest, the game challenges friend groups to explore and prepare by day, then survive the night, when the woods become hunting grounds.
You and your friends are lost deep in the woods, and must venture out by day to scavenge supplies and craft tools, deciding whether to push deeper for greater rewards or attempt to get out while you can. The longer you search, the less time you’ll have to find your way back before the light gives out.
At nightfall, the forest will call in The Beast, an unstoppable apex predator. Twisted creatures prowl the dark, and you and your friends must hide, flee, and find your way out together, leaning on proximity chat to keep the group coordinated, even as every word risks drawing danger closer.
Every escape feeds the next attempt. What players carry out of the forest becomes camp upgrades, new tools, and new strategies, the kind of progression that keeps a squad saying one more run.
“Voidwood comes from the horror we loved as kids: that feeling of wonder right before the dread sets in,” said Shawn Seibert, Founder & Creative Director at Santa Barbara Games. “We love co-op games where surviving means actually talking to each other, and that’s the heart of Voidwood: your voice keeps your team alive, and it’s also what gives you away. The trailer and demo at PAX West are an early look at a much bigger forest to come.”
Attendees can check out the demo (which will be available only in person at the show) at Booth #744. PAX West runs in Seattle from September 4–7.
