Nightdive Studios CEO Teases Potential ‘Eternal Darkness’ Remaster

Nightdive Studios has worked their black magic with obscure cult classic title in the past to get them remastered for modern audiences. And now, Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick has tossed fans a bone, teasing a potential remaster of the cult GameCube Lovecratian horror title Eternal Darkness.

When someone on X asked Kick if he thought that we would ever see Eternal Darkness again, Kick dropped this reply: “Eternal Darkness is one of my all-time favorites and it deserves the treatment I know Nightdive Studios is capable of.”

Kick added even more to his response, telling fans to “keep [their] eye on our Deep Dives.” For those not in the know, Nightdive has their in-depth discussion video series known as “Deep Dive” on YouTube.

Developed by Silicon Knights for the GameCube way back in 2002, Eternal Darkness unfortunately sold less than 500,000 units over its lifetime, but the game was praised by critics and fans. Of note was its “Sanity Effects”, which would cause subtle changes to the environment and random unusual events begin to occur, reflecting the player losing their grip on their sanity.

Eternal Darkness also recently popped up in a discussion with Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, who said that he would “definitely take a close look” at the game if he even got the opportunity to work on a title without any restrictions.

Of course, the main sticking point for all of this is, and always has been, the rights issue. Nintendo still owns the rights to the game, and developer Silicon Knights is no longer around. Silicon Knights founder Dennis Dyack has tried to get a sequel off the ground, with no success. As always, fingers crossed. Stranger things have happened.
