Poppy Playtime fans will have something new to scare them in time for Halloween when MOB Entertainment 4-player survival horror co-op title Escape From Playtime arrives in Early Access on Steam on October 21. The spin-off will send players — alone or with friends — back into the infamous Playtime Co. factory from the perspective of the cute-yet-disturbing Smiling Critters.
Escape From Playtime is being built with Early Access in mind, giving players a strong core loop at launch while leaving room for the community to help shape future growth. The initial release is planned to include a four-character Smiling Critter roster with four more to unlock, one starter zone, and a core enemy lineup. Future updates are expected to expand the game with new zones, Critters, features, and refinements informed by player feedback.
Players take on the roles of said Smiling Critters, the dead-eyed toy line with gaping smiles first introduced in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3, and explore classrooms, warehouses, testing labs, and the dark corridors connecting them all.
Each run sends teams into a dynamically changing section of the facility to find and transport resources for a mysterious Voice. The materials are needed to help build a promised home for toys who prove their loyalty and usefulness. Simple enough, except the factory is filled with rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls. Players must search quickly, choose when to split up or stick together, and know when to retreat.
