‘BioShock’ is Looking Great on Unreal Engine 4

Published

on

As we all patiently wait to see what 2K has in store for the BioShock franchise now that its primary developer Irrational Games has closed, YouTuber and indie game developer noodlespagoodle has gone and made Andrew Ryan proud. Actually, all he did was move assets from the original BioShock into Unreal Engine 4, so that wasn’t terribly difficult, but the results are still remarkable.

I hope that 2K is able to continue pushing this series in new and exciting directions, but part of me sees this and aches for a remake of the first game.

As impressive as this is, it’s not quite as gorgeous as BioShock remade in CryEngine 3.

Your Scream Is Your Doom in Co-Op Horror Game ‘Don’t Panic Together’ [Trailer]

Other titles have made use of your mic as a central part of their gameplay, but not many have made your teammate’s mic the crux of your survival. Legions Studio is taking that route with their new co-op “high-stakes silence” psychological horror game Don’t Panic Together, where your own voice (and your friends’ panic) determines your fate.

Available now in Early Access on Steam, in Don’t Panic Together, players take on the role of police officers trying to survive and complete their assigned tasks in Grimwood, an abandoned town hidden deep within the forest. However, as the night progresses, everything begins to change. You can no longer trust what you see, and the only way to survive is to stay quiet and make it through the night.

With the game’s microphone detection system, panic can become your downfall. Sudden noises, screaming, or losing control of your voice can directly lead to your death. It’s a game of nerves where you must coordinate with your team in total silence while being hunted by something that is literally listening to your real-world reactions.

Adding to the game’s atmosphere is the use of the bodycam perspective, with “subtle VHS effects and handheld camera movement.” That’s in combination with the ambient sounds, sudden effects, and the darkness of the forest to create constant tension throughout the experience.
