NSFW ‘Backmask’ Opening Credits Sequence

Published

on

It’s been over two years since Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th director Marcus Nispel’s Backmask spun behind cameras. You have to think there’s something wrong at this point… maybe there’s some answers hiding within the film if they play if backwards?

While we wait for ay sort of news regarding the release, the opening title sequence was posted online (caught by Bloody reader Fabien M.) by Baird Design. There’s some nudity, so it’s NSFW.

The slasher stars Gage Golightly, Michael Ormsby, Stephen Lang, Kelly Blatz, Brett Dier, Nick Nicotera, Nick Nordella and Brittany Curran.

“During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vintage record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message….and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.“

‘The Grinch’ Live Action Sequel in the Works With Jim Carrey Starring and Ron Howard Directing!

Published

on

It’s a bit of a slow news day here on the horror front, so indulge us for a minute while we cover something that’s not quite a horror project. The Grinch is one of the most iconic villains of time, however, and he was originally played by Boris Karloff, so we’re not totally out of line here…

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Ron Howard and Jim Carrey are in talks to reunite for a sequel to the live action How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie!

If all the deals go through, Jim Carrey would reprise his iconic role as the live action version of the Grinch, while Ron Howard would find himself seated back in the director’s chair.

Universal and Imagine Entertainment are developing, with Brian Grazer producing.

THR notes, “The untitled sequel will have a script by Alec Berg (BarrySilicon ValleyCurb Your Enthusiasm), Jeff Schaffer (Life, Larry and The Pursuit of Unhappiness, DaveCurb Your Enthusiasm) and David Mandel (Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm).”

The Dr. Seuss character was originally introduced in the 1957 children’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, later brought to the screen in the world of animation in the 1966 special.

Horror legend Boris Karloff voiced the Grinch in that animated classic, while Jim Carrey much later played the character in live action in Ron Howard’s 2000 movie. More recently, Benedict Cumberbatch voiced the character in the 2018 animated movie The Grinch.

David Howard Thornton even played a (more) twisted version of the Grinch in the horror movie The Mean One, a wildly unofficial adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss tale.

Another fun horror connection? Back in 2001, makeup effects legend Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) won an Oscar for his work turning Jim Carrey into the Grinch!

In the 2000 live action holiday classic, “On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town.”

The film of course ends with the Grinch embracing Christmas and the Whos, completing his character arc from a nasty beast to a big-hearted citizen of Whoville. Where could a sequel possibly go from there? Well, I did float a fun idea on Twitter just a couple months ago
