The other day IFC Midnight announced Guillermo Amoedo’s The Stranger, which stars Luis Gnecco, Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, and Aaron Burns, for release in select theaters and on VOD June 12th.

Now, we have a U.S. trailer for the indie horror produced by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin fever, The Green Inferno) and Nicolás López (Aftershock), which premiered at the Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin, Texas.

In The Stranger, a mysterious man arrives in a small Canadian town seeking his wife, though his presence plunges the community into a bloodbath.

Here’s a lengthy festival synopsis:

“Amoedo shows a deft ability to turn a bloodthirsty monster movie on its head, into a slow-burn, character-driven film. ‘The Stranger’ takes its time, building the tension through occasional flashbacks and having the audience sympathize with Peter, who grew up not knowing his father. Peter, like the audience, is kept largely in the dark about his father’s motives or even what he is… because he’s certainly not human. What is apparent is the chaos his dad’s return has on the small town, especially a member of the police force and his violence-prone son.

‘The Stranger’ is ultimately about family, the legacy we pass on to our children and the lengths we go to protect and ensure their survival, no matter how dark and deadly they might become.” (James Shapiro)

‘Scary Movie’ Heads to Blu-ray in September After $224 Million Box Office Win

Published

on

Over one month later, Scary Movie is still playing in theaters and still making money, with the franchise’s brand new installment slashing into $224.5 million at the worldwide box office.

In fact, the Scary Movie franchise has now collectively passed $1 billion in theaters!

Scary Movie is headed to Digital at home soon, and a listing on Amazon this week indicates that the film will be making its way to Blu-ray and DVD this coming September.

The film is listed for DVD and Blu-ray release on September 22, 2026.

We don’t have any additional release information at this time. Stay tuned.

Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite for the new Scary Movie, with the cast also including Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Jon Abrahams, Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, and Felissa Rose.

Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe…

Scary Movie will slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t. A whole lot has changed in the horror genre since the Wayans Brothers were in charge of the franchise; their involvement ended with Scary Movie 2 back in 2001!

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directed the new Scary Movie.
