[Video] Did You Like the Kills in the ‘Friday the 13th’ Remake?

Published

Has it really been almost 10 years already?!

It’s no secret that many horror fans just won’t ever accept remakes, but if you’re asking me, Marcus Nispel did a damn fine job with the two that he made. Nispel directed the excellent Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake in 2003, and he returned to the horror remake world with Friday the 13th in 2009.

I’ve talked about the Friday the 13th remake a handful of times here on Bloody Disgusting, but in summation: I dig it a whole lot. More of a remake of the first several films in the franchise than the original classic, the Damian Shannon and Mark Swift-penned reboot FELT like an old school Friday movie, which is just about all one could ask for from it.

With a more badass version of Jason than ever before (h/t Derek Mears) and a 20-minute pre-credits sequence that is an awesome Friday the 13th film in its own right, the 2009 remake delivered the goods, packed with gruesome kills that showed an even nastier side of the masked maniac. Standout highlights include a sleeping bag kill that’s even meaner than the one featured in The New Blood, along with a clever dock kill that’s as wonderfully gratuitous as these movies get.

Speaking of which, our friend James A. Janisse finally rounds out his weekly Friday the 13th “Kill Count” series with a play-by-play look at the 2009 remake!

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
