One of the coolest things about writing for Bloody Disgusting is the ability to offer a platform for up-and-coming genre filmmakers. Before writing for the site I would often visit not only to find the latest news on all our horror favorites, but to see what new stuff was out there just dying to be discovered. That’s why today I’m very proud to present a first look at The Theta Girl.
The Theta Girl comes from first-time director Christopher Bickel and was written by David Axe. Bickel describes the film as “an exercise in sex, drugs, punk rock, brutality, gore, revenge, and self-actualization… but really it’s an art film,” which is a fantastic way to describe a movie. The film made its debut at a midnight screening in Atlanta on Friday the 13th in October and received rave reviews from those in attendance.
I haven’t seen the film yet myself, but I’m very eager to do so. Based on the description of the film, which is said to contain nudity, drug use, adult themes and extremely graphic violence, and judging from the outrageously brutal clip we have for you below this is going to be one that I love. The Theta Girl is now making the festival rounds.
“Gayce, a take-no-shit young woman, deals a hallucinogenic drug called “theta,” facilitating an audience for her friends’ all-girl rock band. When Gayce’s friends are brutally murdered, she must solve the mystery behind the murders and protect herself from the killer. She discovers the connections between theta and the murders – and learns a terrifying truth. That the world — indeed her whole reality — is not as it seems.”
