‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ IMAX Trailer Goes Too Big
It’ll be Jaeger vs. Jaeger, Monster vs. Jaeger and Boyega vs. Monster in the Steven S. DeKnight-directed sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s film. Being a fan of movies like Robot Jox, I want so badly to like Pacific Rim Uprising, opening on March 23, 2018. The new IMAX trailer looks like even more Power Rangers meets Transformers nonsense. It plays like something you’d see on Syfy, only 150x the budget. I think it’s incredibly important for all films (including fantasy and sci-fi) to have some feeling of believability. To me, this footage just looks like a convoluted trainwreck of CGI that borders on extreme self-gratification and completely lacks any heart. It look soulless. I’d say, “At least it looks like something I could beat the heat to this summer,” only it’s coming out this spring…

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
