The Hurricane Heist (formerly Category 5), a disaster action thriller from director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious), has just blown into theaters.
The film follows a team of tech hackers who infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility on a small coastal town to steal $102M in cash, just as a disastrous Category 5 hurricane, the storm of the century, is about to strike and level it to the ground. The only other two people left in the town, a meteorologist and a female treasury agent, must survive the horrific storm while stopping the thieves from getting away with the heist of the century.
We have an exclusive clip that’s pure B-movie, looking like Twister meets Hard Rain, only with the insanity of The Fast and the Furious. Watch as the duo strap in and cause a massive car crash…
“Under the threat of a hurricane, opportunistic criminals infiltrate a US Mint facility to steal $600 million for the ultimate heist. When the hurricane blows up into a lethal CATEGORY 5 storm and their well-made plans go awry, they find themselves needing a vault code known only by one Treasury Agent (Maggie Grace), a need that turns murderous. But the Treasury agent has picked up an unlikely ally, a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) terrified of hurricanes but determined to save his estranged brother kidnapped by the thieves. He uses his knowledge of the storm as a weapon to win in this non-stop action thriller ride charged with adrenaline throughout.”
Written by Jeff Dixon and Scott Windhauser, The Hurricane Heist also stars Ralph Ineson, Randy Couture, Melissa Bolona, Jamie Andrew Cutler.
“Crossing a heist movie set amidst the intense action of a natural disaster was an idea to which I truly responded,” Cohen explained when initially announced. “It’s a chance for me to get back to my roots in doing the adrenaline-pumped action/special effects films I love to create.”
