You want mayonnaise on your sandwich?
Director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride have been saying that their Halloween will be loaded with fun Easter egg references to the franchise’s past, despite this year’s sequel disregarding the events of everything past John Carpenter’s original classic. We already saw a fun Halloween III homage in the first trailer (and again in today’s brand new trailer), and it looks like a character from 1981’s Halloween II will even be making her return!
In one of the first scenes in Halloween II, Michael Myers arrives at the home of Norma and Howard Elrod, stealing their kitchen knife so he can resume his murder spree. Norma is seen making a sandwich for Howard, who has fallen asleep while watching Night of the Living Dead. Michael doesn’t kill either of them, but he spooks Norma by leaving blood on her cutting board.
As seen in today’s brand new trailer, Michael’s return to Haddonfield in Halloween 2018 plays out much the same way it did in Halloween II, with Michael stealing a kitchen knife from the home of an older woman. And wouldn’t ya know it, the character (credited on IMDb as “Sandwich Woman”) is dressed exactly like Norma Elrod, with a pink robe and rollers in her hair. The layout of her home is almost even exactly the same, taking the homage one step further.
Only this time, it looks like Norma doesn’t get off so easy…
Watch the original Norma scene below, along with the recreation in the new trailer!
Fun Fact: Stuntwoman Marian Green plays “Sandwich Woman” (aka Norma Elrod) in this year’s Halloween, the role originated by actress Lucille Benson in Halloween II.
