[Exclusive] ‘Lizzie’ Footage Explores Kristen Stewart and Chloë Sevigny’s Performances

Lionsgate will release Craig William Macneill’s Lizzie, starring Academy Award Nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry) as the accused murderess Lizzie Borden, alongside Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga), on Blu-ray (plus Digital), DVD, and On Demand December 11.

The film is based on the infamous true story of the 1892 axe murder of the Borden family in Fall River, Massachusetts, and it aims to present the story under a whole new light. An exclusive clip shows the immediate aftermath of a murder.

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive clip from the “Understanding Lizzie” featurette in which the cast and crew discuss both Sevigny and Stewart’s performances.

Fred Topel reviewed the racy period drama for us, explaining that this take on the Lizzie Borden murders “posits a sympathetic motive to Borden’s axe murders.”

In the film, written by Bryce Kass….

“Academy Award nominee Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry, “Big Love”) stars as Lizzie Borden, the notorious woman at the heart of one of the most enduring mysteries in American history. After a lifetime of loneliness, Lizzie finds a kindred spirit in housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) and their secret intimacy sparks an unthinkable act. Director Craig William Macneill (The Boy (2015), “Channel Zero: Candle Cove”) explores the days leading up to the savage crimes in a dark tale of repression, exploitation and thwarted dreams.”

The film is rounded out by a star-studded cast including Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Fear the Walking Dead”), Denis O’Hare (Dallas Buyers Club, “American Horror Story”), Jeff Perry(“Scandal”), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter),  and Jamey Sheridan (Spotlight, “Homeland”).

With fiendish followers invading suburbia, it’s now up to the kids to discover the secret that can lock The Gate forever . . . if it’s not too late.
